FILL THE GAP IN BREAST SCAN PATIENT CARE
WOMEN ARE LEFT ON THEIR OWN AFTER GETTING BREAST SCAN REFERRALS
There is a lack of patient care between getting a referral and having a breast scan. While imaging facilities provide a short description of the procedure and prep instructions, it's often minimal and does not capture the full breadth of experience the patient is about to have.
Culturally women are expected stay quiet and endure medical & pain alone. That needs to change, Tough Titties Club hopes to be the starting point of the ongoing conversation women have about the realities of breast scans.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE
In 2021, a mammogram screening saved my life
As part of my breast cancer diagnosis & treatment, I had multiple mammograms, breast ultrasounds, MRIs, and a variety of breast biopsies. Each post diagnosis test was filled with anxiety, each new scan experience full of unexpected surprises physically, financially, and mentally.
While my cancer team of doctors & nurses were supportive I found the scan information provided incomplete, neither the referring physicians nor imaging facilities provide any scanxiety support.
The goal for Tough Titties Club is lessen stress by setting realistic expectations about breast scans and provide mental health tools so women are better prepared for the experience.

A 2023 study found scanxiety can negatively impact receipt of follow-up care
32%
Those with median levels of anticipatory anxiety were 32% less likely to undergo a mammogram in the next year.
16%
Among people with metastatic cancer, 16% reported that they had delayed follow-up care due to scanxiety
